The modernisation work of the line was carried out by Astaldi, including upgrading the single track into double, introducing electric trains and upgrading the stations. Three brand new stations Kraków Młynówka, Kraków Zakliki and Kraków Olszanica have also been built on the line.

Construction of the railway station at the airport is a joint investment of PKP Polish Railways SA and Krakow Airport. The airport station was moved about 500 meters closer to the terminal, which was a key element of the investment. The airport was responsible for the construction of roofing over the platform and tracks, staircases, lifts and travellators leading to the footbridge connecting the terminal stop, visual information system and other decorative elements.
