UK: The Global AirRail Alliance (GARA) has welcomed FLIO, the first global airport app, as its newest member.

FLIO has recently partnered with Heathrow Express and Aspire Lounges by Swissport to announce the new in-app payment functionality, that will sit alongside existing features, including instant, one-click access to free airport Wi-Fi, comprehensive airport information and exclusive retail offers. The new payment system will initially launch in the UK before it rolls out globally.

“Our goal is to make FLIO the one-stop solution for every airport need,” said Stephan Uhrenbacher, CEO of FLIO. “The ability to pay for services like Heathrow Express and Aspire Lounges are an important part of the airport experience, and FLIO’s new payment feature makes buying tickets quick and easy. In the coming months, we plan to expand our payment system to many more countries and airports in order to connect travellers with the services and retailers most important to them.”

The FLIO app was the first to introduce instant, one-click access to airport Wi-Fi removing the step of entering personal details, and its new payment system makes purchasing train tickets and lounge access seamless as well. Users are now able to store card details and pay for services at the touch of a button.

Heathrow Express Director, Fraser Brown, said: “We are always looking to use technology to help enhance our passenger experience. We don’t have ticket barriers, so our customers already enjoy a seamless experience between the plane and central London. We already offer the fastest journey time between Heathrow and central London. Enabling global travellers to buy our tickets using FLIO will make it a seamless and simple journey for them to travel on our trains.”

In addition to payment functionality, FLIO continues to expand the number of airport Wi-Fi networks it supports. At launch, FLIO supported more than 20 free airport Wi-Fi networks - the app now supports more than 130 Wi-Fi networks with key hubs including Moscow and San Francisco now integrated. Live security wait times have also been implemented for more than 20 airports, including Dublin, Hamburg, Atlanta and Vancouver with more airports to be added. Populated with the most accurate data direct from airport sources, live security times give users real-time security queuing information.

FLIO is available as a free download for iPhone at: http://getflio.com with an Android version set to launch later in the year.
