Dispute causes Honolulu rail cost increase

Honolulu’s airport rail line is nearly 5 months behind schedule due to a dispute between Hitachi Rail and Shimmick/Traylor/Granite.

The dispute is over who has caused a 4+ month delay on completion of 4 stations along the new route. Hitachi claim they are facing increased costs by not having access to the new stations while STG claim that Hitachi are responsible for the delays as the designs did not display where to install conduits and other equipment.

This is yet another delay in a project that has already faced delays in construction due to a contaminated water site in 2018, and a possible $40m delay in relocating utilities along Ualena Street.
