EUR 250m funding for Nice Airport Tram

FRANCE: The European Investment Bank (EIB) and the Metropolis Nice Côte d'Azur signed a EUR 250 million financing contract for the new tram line project, joining a major west-east axis in Nice. The rest of the of the funds, another EUR 250 million will be covered by the Caisse des Dépôts.

The new 11.3 km West-East Tram will have total of 20 stations and connect the port, the airport, the Convention Centre and the Exhibition Centre with historic city and such growing areas like Grand Arenas, Les Moulins and Nice Meridia. It is estimated that eventually the line will carry 200,000 passengers daily.

The funding includes an acquisition of 19 new generation trains with capacity to carry 300 people.

Travel time between the airport and the city centre will be 26 minutes.

The commissioning of this new line is expected in 2018.
